How to install tile board paneling in the bathroom

Tile board is different from ceramic or porcelain tile. It is a fiberboard of medium density. It is a pressed board with melamine on top. The melamine top has a grooved appearance which resembles the grout lines of tiles. Among its several advantages, one advantage of tile board is it is water resistant.

Tile board is a great way of covering minor wall imperfections. It is necessary to install tile board paneling over flat finished surfaces. Tile board provides easy installation. In reality it can be glued down over a flat surface, the edges can be sealed with silicone caulk or other suitable edging materials. Condition the tile board in the bathroom for 48 hours where you plan to install it. Make sure the walls are flat and dry.

Things you will require to do your job: Tile board panels, sandpaper, spacers, pencil, level, tile board adhesive, caulk, notched trowel 3/16”, cloth

Pile the tile board on the bathroom floor or against the bathroom wall to prepare them for the environment. Between the panels place spacers. Leave these for 48 hours to ensure the air in the room circulates around the panels.

Use sandpaper to smoothen the walls of the surface where the tile board is to be applied. Make use of a piece of cloth to remove any dust particles on the back of the panels to ensure good bonding between the panels and the walls.

Hold the tile board panels at a level on the wall and draw a line.

Mix tile board adhesive and spread it at the back of the tile board panel. Make use of a 3/16” notched trowel to remove the excessive adhesive and to create ridges.

Press the tile board panel on the wall where it is to be fixed. Apply adhesive at the back of another panel and hold it against the wall.

Apply silicone caulk in the spaces between the tile board panels, this stops water from entering the gaps and causing damage to the tile board or wall.
